No-poo

I’ve recently decided to try going no-poo. No…no-poo doesn’t have anything to do with bowel movements (thank goodness!), but it does describe the movement where people are shirking commercial SHAMPOO.

I’ve read up quite a bit on it and have for a long while done away with lathering and rinsing for my kids, but never have I tried this myself, and I’ve got pretty long hair…so wish me luck!

According to almost everyone who has gone no-poo, it is fantastic and they haven’t had more radiant hair (or healthier scalps). They warn that there’s a transition period where your scalp tries to re-balance its natural oil production and that this shouldn’t discourage you from keeping on with your new regime.

Of course, being herb crazy, this idea works beautifully with herbal oil treatments, herbal (vinegar) rinses and even natural hair coloring!Conni und Co 2 – Rettet die Kanincheninsel 2017 film trailer

I’m going to have to do some updated fact-finding, but off-hand I remember that chamomile, mullein and lemon are hair lighteners, sage and rosemary are great for dark or greying hair, rosemary stimulates the scalp, stinging nettle root may help combat excessive hairloss and stimulate hair growth and horsetail is generally accepted as a great hair herb.

Besides the actual herbs, I’m also going to be getting stocked up on some essential oils, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil and bicarbonate of soda.

Have you gone shampoo-less? Do you make your own herbal/natural plant-based shampoos?
